A Solo Travel Dream in San Francisco: My 6-Day Adventure in the City by the Bay

6/23/2025

From February 28 to March 4, 2024, I had the opportunity to explore the iconic city of San Francisco—and let me tell you, this solo trip was the perfect blend of work, exploration, and relaxation. Whether you're traveling for business, pleasure, or a little bit of both, San Francisco truly delivers.

Where I Stayed: Club Quarters, Financial District
I checked into the
Club Quarters Hotel in the Financial District, and it was a fantastic fit for a solo traveler like me. I stayed in one of their smaller rooms, which was modern, clean, and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful—always a plus when you're traveling alone. One of my favorite perks? Their daily open wine happy hour, where guests could mingle and unwind. They also had several public lounge areas perfect for getting work done without being cooped up in your room.

Day 1: Arrival & Dinner at a San Francisco Classic

After checking in and getting settled, I headed out for dinner at Tadich Grill, the oldest restaurant in San Francisco. It was absolutely delicious—rich in history and full of flavor. The perfect way to kick off the trip!

Day 2:
Work with a View

As an instructional designer for Golden Gate University, I spent my second day working on campus. It was such a pleasure to meet my boss in person and enjoy lunch with her and our amazing student assistant. After wrapping up the day, I grabbed a drink at a local bar and took some time to wander the neighborhood around my hotel. San Francisco has such a walkable, vibrant energy—I could explore for hours.
Day 3: Art, Icons & Ocean AirThis day was all about soaking up the artistic and coastal sides of the city. I started the morning at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), one of the largest modern and contemporary art museums in the country. The exhibits were inspiring, and I loved the peaceful energy of the space.
Day 4: Painted Ladies, Fortune Cookies & the Golden Gate Bridge
I started the morning with a guided tour of San Francisco’s famous Victorian row houses, including the Painted Ladies. Fun fact: if you want to repaint a historic home here, the new color must be approved by the historical society!

After the tour, I explored the surrounding neighborhood, then headed to
Chinatown for lunch and a visit to the original fortune cookie factory. Watching them being made—and taking some home—was a unique treat.

Later, I took an Uber across the
Golden Gate Bridge to visit the charming town of Sausalito, then came back to the bridge to soak in its majestic beauty. No matter how many times you see it, it never loses its “wow” factor.

Day 5: Sea Life, Dumplings & a Bay Cruise

My morning started at the Aquarium of the Bay, where I walked through underwater tunnels surrounded by sharks, rays, and other marine life native to the San Francisco Bay. It was an incredible experience that made me feel like a kid again!

Afterward, I headed to Japantown for lunch, where I had the best dumplings of my life. Fun twist—I had to learn how to use chopsticks on the spot because there were no forks available! It was a little adventure in itself.

Later, I returned to Fisherman’s Wharf for one last stroll along the docks and saw dozens of playful sea lions lounging in the sun. The perfect end to the day? A sunset dinner cruise on the Bay, complete with clear skies and unbeatable views of the Golden Gate Bridge lit up in golden hour hues. Magical doesn't even begin to describe it.

Day 6:
Goodbye, San Francisco

I woke up early on the final morning to catch my flight home, already dreaming about my next visit to this incredible city.
